Background

In July 2016, the Quinto Alçado do Porto Project (PQAP) was officially signed between the Porto City Council and the National Association of Green Roofs (ANCV). This consultancy project began in August 2016 and ran for 12 months.

The initiative aimed to define a strategic model for the development of green infrastructures — particularly green roofs — to be integrated into the urban, environmental, and green space planning strategy of the city of Porto.

The project also included the involvement of research groups from higher education institutions and international cooperation with foreign municipalities, promoting knowledge exchange and innovation in sustainable urban planning.

ANCV’s Role

ANCV led the consultancy work by:

_Designing the strategic framework for the adoption of green roofs within Porto’s urban development strategy.
_Coordinating with higher education research groups and international municipalities.
_Representing and disseminating the project at international forums, contributing to its recognition and visibility.

Recognition

The PQAP poster, presented by ANCV in partnership with the Porto City Council, was awarded the Best Poster Prize at the international congress “Green Infrastructures: Nature-Based Solutions for Sustainable and Resilient Cities”, held in Orvieto, Italy, from 4–7 April 2017, with the participation of more than 400 attendees from around the world.
