Background

The GENESIS Project was developed to create a comprehensive and systematic model that balances the environmental, economic, and social benefits of green roofs and walls against their associated costs, taking a life cycle perspective.

Objectives

To support decision-makers in making robust and informed decisions regarding the real economic value of green roofs and walls solutions.
Additionally, to design effective incentive mechanisms capable of significantly boosting the large-scale development of such systems.

Strategy

The project is organized into four tasks:

Task 1

Survey of cost-benefit analyses of green roofs/walls

Survey of green roof/wall projects

Long-term cost/benefit modelling

Translation of benefits into economic gains

Establishment of a methodological approach for cost-benefit analysis

Modelling life-cycle costs and benefits

Modelling uncertainty in evaluation

Development of a multi-criteria model

Cost-benefit analysis of greening existing roof spaces in a city
